Jairo R Pina is a chemical engineer graduated from University of Atlantico - Barranquilla Colombia. He has a highly specialized worldwide glass technology studies and training record along his entire glass technology career.
Mr. Pina has a vast experience working for the glass industry for about 48 years. For the last ten years he has been working with his own company, JP Glass Technology Solutions, LLC. For 33 years he worked for Owens-Illinois which is the major glass container manufacturer in the world. For five years prior to this time, he worked for other glass industry companies (Produvisa, Viorca and Philips). Being recognized as one of the best Glass Technology experts in the world is one of his biggest accomplishments.
His expertise in various areas of the glass technology and furnace operation field is extensive, and includes troubleshooting (stone, blister, seed, cord, color, density and batch off set and workability problems), batch and raw materials and cullet audits, R&D projects, batch and glass formulations preparation, new glass color and batch formulation developments, resistance of the glass to the weathering attack projects, workability glass projects oriented to improve plant productivity, and glass technology trainings. Leading the global glass color changes made by O-I has given him the opportunity to save this company a significant amount of time and money. Between writing his own and reviewing others’ work, he has been involved in more than 570 color changes in his whole career.
With his company, JP Glass Technology Solutions, LLC he provides technical support and on-site assistance for domestic and international glass container (all colors), tableware, and extra flint liquor & cosmetic manufacturers. He can also deliver technical support for the flat glass process (fourcoult),and color changes for the same process as well. He has led different projects to produce new glass colors (different types of blue, gray, black, green and other colors in progress) in the glass container and flat glass processes, in addition to projects to produce new, or improve existing glass formulations, batch improvements and glass workability related problems.
He leads, plans, manages and executes all types of color changes for glass container plants globally. He has led and is currently leading projects to improve the resistance of the soda-lime glass to the weathering attack issue, and new innovative R&D special glass color projects. Notable results include reductions of SO2 and CO2 emissions, compliance with government regulations, eco-friendliness and sustainability. His many years of experience have taken him to work in a number of countries in Europe (Finland), Asia (China), Asia Pacific (Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Malaysia), North America (USA & Canada) and especially Latin America and the Caribbean (Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Trinidad & Tobago, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay & Chile).
